Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory Limited is a private medical laboratory with a network of over fifty collection centres island-wide and has been providing comprehensive laboratory services since 1968.
The laboratory participates in external proficiency testing with the Medical Laboratory Evaluation (MLE) programme provided by the American College of Physicians, Randox International Quality Assessment Scheme (RIQAS), American Proficiency Institute (API), United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Services (UKNEQAS) and National Microbiology Laboratory (NML).
On May 28, 2013, the Laboratory was awarded Accreditation Status from the Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC) having met the required International Standard of ISO 15189 that governs medical laboratories. The Laboratory has successfully completed three (3) Surveillances since its accreditation.
The laboratory utilizes state of the art methods and cutting edge technology in order to provide our clients with the best service which includes a Laboratory Information System (LIS) for data management.
In order to ensure the quality of test results and satisfy our customers, Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory Limited has established, implemented and will continuously maintain a quality management system appropriate to the scope of our activities. The laboratory has put in place documented policies, systems, programmes, procedures and instructions for the maintenance of the quality management system. The system’s documentation is implemented by the appropriate authorities and made available to all personnel in an easily understandable format.
Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory Limited’s expertise is rooted in our dedication to provide physicians with timely, high-quality laboratory tests and services that help them provide improved patient care. The Laboratory is committed to the implementation of new tests that provide additional clinical information.
The laboratory provides Mobile Phlebotomy services to homebound patients, patients with frequent orders, patients with busy schedules and those with transportation issues. Our trained and certified phlebotomists travel to patients’ home or office to collect and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing (“We Come, We Draw, We Test”). Medicals for companies and Health Care facilities are done by appointments.
We offer 24 hour Emergency Service including weekends and public holidays. The main laboratory opens at 7:00 am and closes at 7:00 pm weekdays and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 am and closes at 2:00 pm. Our licensed Medical Technologists provide emergency service to 7:00 am the following day and on weekends and public holidays.
Healthcare providers/Insurance companies receive electronic copies of results via the BIOMEDICAL Reporting Client and our doctors are also able to receive their clients’ results via Email.
The laboratory’s staff complement comprises a cadre of licensed Medical Technologists, a Scientific Officer, Technical Assistants, three (3) Consulting Clinical Consultants, a Quality Management Consultant and trained, certified Phlebotomists. Critical support is also provided by our Administrative personnel, Laboratory Assistants, Drivers and Bearers.
